The Beluga's Song in the Ocean of Wonders

Why does the beluga sing under the water?

The Dive into the Ocean of Wonders

After learning how the Arctic fox, Finn, hides in the snow, Niko and Nuna continue their adventure. They find out that the white and gray colors of his fur make him almost invisible in the snowy landscape. They understand that nature is full of surprises and tricks to survive in this icy world. One day, as they slide on the ice, they see a sleek(1) white shape coming out of the water. It's Lumo the beluga, who invites them to dive with him into the Ocean of Wonders.

Niko, curious, asks:
« Where are we going, Lumo the beluga? »

Nuna, curious, asks then:
« It's true, it seems really deep! Can we go, Lumo the beluga? »

Lumo the beluga, with an encouraging smile, says:
« Follow me. The water is clear. You will see incredible things. »

After diving, Niko and Nuna find a colorful world. Shiny fish swim around them. Seaweed gently sways(2). Lumo the beluga shows them how he uses sounds to find his way. He explains that each sound has a meaning. He also shows how he finds food with his songs.

Niko, amazed, says:
« It's magical! »

Nuna, curious, asks:
« How do you do it, Lumo the beluga? »

Lumo the beluga explains: « I use sounds to find things in my way(3). Sounds also guide me to food. »

Lumo sings an old melody(4) passed down(5) from generation to generation. The notes of the song sound like a clue… and could lead them to the treasure hidden under the ice!

The Mystery of Lumo the Beluga's Song

The children listen carefully. The sounds echo in the water. The notes seem to draw a secret path. Lumo the beluga stops and shows them a direction with his head.

Niko, curious about the direction shown by Lumo the beluga, asks:
« Is it this way? »

Lumo the beluga, with a reassuring smile, then said to them:
« Yes, follow the sounds. They will guide you. »

Nuna, curious, asks:
« What are we going to find? »

Lumo the beluga, with a mysterious smile, whispers:
« A hidden treasure. The sea has secrets. »

After listening to Lumo the beluga's melody, Niko and Nuna, curious(6) about the ocean's secrets, are led to a frozen beach by the mysterious sounds. They are then guided by the melody's notes to a big(7) walrus named Magnus. He shows them how he uses his big tusks to dig and open paths in the ice, a very important skill to survive in this tough place.
