📝 Quick summary of key information

What are Magnus the walrus's big tusks for?

The walrus is a big sea mammal that lives in the cold waters of the Arctic. It has a large body and a thick layer of fat to protect it from the cold. The walrus is easily recognized by its big tusks, which are actually long canines.

The big tusks of the walrus are useful for many things. They help the walrus defend itself against predators, like polar bears. They are also very useful during fights between males for dominance and access to females. Walruses use their tusks as weapons to impress their opponents.

Walruses' tusks are also very useful for moving on the ice. They use them like crutches to walk on the ice floes. They also help walruses dig holes in the ice to breathe when they are underwater.

Walruses live mostly in the Arctic. They eat shellfish and tiny crabs from the ocean floor. They spend lots of time in the water, but they also like to rest on floating ice.

The Walrus and the Ice Key

What are the big tusks of the walrus for ?

The Magic Tusk Discovery

After listening to the underwater melodies(1) of Lumo the beluga, Niko and Nuna emerge from the water, amazed by the mysterious(2) sounds from the depths. They learned that belugas communicate by singing, and this new knowledge fills them with curiosity about what awaits them on the ice(3). As they come out of the water, they spot a huge gray shape moving slowly on the ice. It's Magnus the walrus, a wise and kind friend who lives in the cold waters of the North. Niko and Nuna rush over to him, eager to share their discoveries and find out what Magnus has to show them today.

Niko, curious, asks: « Magnus the walrus, you have such big tusks(4)(5). What are they for? »

Nuna, with her eyes wide open, says:
« Yes, they are amazing! »

Magnus the walrus, with his deep and soothing voice, explains: « My tusks help me break(6) the ice. I dig holes to reach the water. »

Not long after, Magnus the walrus shows an old block of ice. He uses his tusks to break it. In a few strong hits, he opens a path. Clear and cool water appears. Niko and Nuna are amazed.

Nuna, amazed, says:
« That's amazing! How do you do that? »

Niko, curious, asks:
« And why dig holes in the ice? »

Magnus the walrus, with his deep and soothing voice, explains:
« The holes help to breathe at the surface. They also help to defend. »

By breaking an old block of ice, Magnus the walrus reveals a carved(7) stone with a new clue about the hidden treasure under the ice.

The Carved Stone and the Hidden Treasure

The carved stone is shown to the little penguins by Magnus the walrus. The symbols are lit up by the sun's rays.

Niko, curious, asks:
« What are these symbols? »

Nuna, eyes sparkling with curiosity, asks:
« Where is the hidden treasure? »

Magnus the walrus, in a deep and soothing voice, says:
« The treasure is under the ice. The symbols show the way. »

Niko, excited, shouts:
« Let's go on an adventure! »

Nuna, with a mischievous smile, says:
« Yes, let's find the other stones! »

After finding the precious clue, Niko and Nuna decide to continue their adventure. While exploring a snowy valley, they meet an Arctic hare named Lumi. This animal, with its white fur, blends perfectly with the snow. The reason why it changes color will be discovered later. For now, they enjoy the joy of their discovery and the wisdom shared by Magnus the walrus, with his gray fur. They know that each new adventure brings them closer to the secrets of the ice floe and the wonders it hides.
