📝 Quick summary of key information

How do bees make honey?

Bees are very important for nature. They help flowers make babies by carrying pollen from one flower to another. This helps plants make seeds and fruits.

Bees live in groups in a hive. Each bee has a special job: the queen lays eggs, the worker bees collect nectar and pollen, and the males protect the hive.

Bees buzz around flowers to collect nectar. They bring it back to the hive and give it to other bees, who turn it into honey. The honey is then stored in honeycombs to feed the colony.

Honey is the main food for bees. They eat it to get energy and survive, especially during winter when there are no flowers.

The Bee and the Secret of Honey

How do bees make honey?

The Discovery of the Golden Hive

After watching the amazing sight of colorful(1) butterflies and seeing how these delicate(2) flying insects help pollinate(3) the flowers and contribute(4) to their growth, Lili the ladybug and Gaston the beetle continue their exploration(5). The gentle landing of the butterfly on the rose petals was fascinating. But soon, a soft buzzing sound caught their attention. Curious, they decided to follow this melodious sound, which led them through the tall grasses and fragrant flowers. They discovered a golden hive, sparkling in the sunlight. The busy bees were coming and going in a never-ending dance.

Lili, with her eyes wide open, asks:
« What is this place? »

Gaston, with a curious smile, explains:
« It's a beehive. Bees live there. »

Lili, eyes shining with curiosity, exclaims:
« Bees make honey. I want to taste it. »

A little later, a bee with black and yellow stripes came to meet them. It was Baba the Bee, always ready to help her friends. She explained that bees collect nectar(6) from flowers to make honey. Baba the Bee showed them how she dances to guide her friends to the prettiest flowers.

Baba the Bee, with a warm smile, says:
« I am going to show you how we make honey. »

Maya the Bee shows them how she dances to guide her friends to the most beautiful flowers and offers them some sweet honey to taste.

The Mystery of the Bee Dance

After tasting the honey, Lili and Gaston asked Maya how bees knew where to find the best flowers.

Baba the Bee, with a mysterious smile, explains:
« Bees dance to talk to each other. »

Lili, curious, asks:
« How do they dance? »

Gaston, eyes sparkling with curiosity, exclaims:
« Show us how they dance, Maya! »

They were then told the secret of the bees' dance. They were shown how, when Maya returned to the hive, she made movements in the shape of eights to show the direction and distance of the flowers. The other bees, by watching this dance, could find the sources of nectar.

Lili, amazed, shouts:
« It's magical! »

Gaston, eyes sparkling with excitement, says:
« I want to learn to dance like you. »

Still dizzy from Maya's delicious honey, Lili and Gaston, the cheerful ladybug and her adventurous and greedy friend Gaston the beetle, continue their exploration. Their path takes them through rustling bushes until they reach a peaceful and fascinating place where crystal-clear water flows: the Singing Stream. There, they are intrigued by Zéphyr the dragonfly gracefully flying near the water. Her elegant(7) movements raise a thousand questions about the mysteries of running waters and this elegant creature. Intrigued, they decide to follow Zéphyr to discover the secrets of her watery world.
