📝 Quick summary of key information
Why do dragonflies love to fly above the water?
Dragonflies love to fly above the water because that's where they find their main food: small insects and mosquitoes. They are great hunters and catch their prey while flying.
Dragonflies spend most of their life as larvae in the water. They stay there for several years before becoming adults that can fly. Once they are adults, they live only a few weeks to a few months.
Dragonflies are very helpful because they eat lots of small insects, like mosquitoes. This helps control their numbers and protects other animals and people from mosquito bites.
Dragonflies have very strong eyes that help them see very well and spot their prey while flying. They use their front legs to catch insects in the air.

The Dragonfly and the Stream Mirror
Why do dragonflies love to fly above the water?
The Dance Above the Water
After discovering the golden beehive hidden in Rainbow Meadow, Lili and Gaston, the hungry and adventurous duo, were amazed by the incredible organization of the bees. They continued their exploration, following a gentle murmur, and arrived at the Singing Stream. There, a dragonfly named Zeffry was flying gracefully above the clear water. Her iridescent (1) blue wings reflected the sunlight, creating an enchanting (2) sight. Lili, the little red ladybug with black spots, sparkling eyes, and shiny wings in the sun, and Gaston, the emerald green beetle with a shiny shell (3) and wiggly antennae, decided to get closer to learn more about this elegant (4) creature.
Lili, curious, asks:
« Hi, are you Zeffry the dragonfly? »
Zeffry the dragonfly, with a mischievous smile, asks then:
« Yes, it's me. Do you want to know why I fly over the water? »
Gaston, curious, asks:
« Yes, why? »
Zeffry the dragonfly, with her shiny eyes, begins to explain: « Dragonflies lay their eggs in the water. The babies, called larvae (5), grow under the water. Then, they become winged adults. »
While playing, they find a natural bridge to cross the stream!
The Mystery of the Reflections
Zeffry the dragonfly shows them how to see their reflection in the water. She tells them about the life cycle of dragonflies. While playing, they find a natural bridge to cross the stream! They jump on it and continue their adventure.
Zeffry the dragonfly, flying gracefully, explains:
« Dragonflies fly very fast. They change direction in an instant. »
Lili, curious, asks:
« Why fly above the water? »
Zeffry the dragonfly explains:
« Flying above the water makes it easy to spot prey. They also lay their eggs safely. »
Gaston, curious, says:
« That's right, Zeffry the dragonfly! When I look at the water, I see strange shapes. It's like the water is playing tricks on our eyes. Sometimes, I wonder if what I see is really there. »
Zeffry the dragonfly, fluttering gracefully, explains: « Reflections in the water can sometimes trick predators (6). Look closely, you can even see your own reflection! Isn't that fun? You see, water reflects everything above it, like trees and the sky. It's like a magic mirror! »
But the adventure does not end there for our friends. After watching their reflections in the water and learning about the life cycle of dragonflies, Gaston and Lili realize they are thirsty and hungry. The water adventures with Zeffry the dragonfly might have quenched their thirst but certainly not satisfied their sweet tooth. As soon as they dried their little paws, they set off through the petals and grasses towards the sweet and fragrant flowers. They decide to go to the Butterfly Palace, where they hope to find delicious nectars (7) and maybe even new friends to meet.
