The Grasshopper and the Big Jump
How does Salto the grasshopper jump so high?
The Discovery of Salto the Grasshopper
After watching the ants with admiration (1), Lili and Gaston walk through Rainbow Meadow, amazed by the cleverness of the little workers. The ladybugs think about the importance of teamwork, a well-kept secret of the ants. Suddenly, they are interrupted by a jumping figure (2) that dances from leaf to leaf. Curious, they decide to follow this agile (3) creature (4) to learn more.
Lili, amazed, says:
« Look, Gaston, it's a grasshopper. »
Gaston, amazed, shouts:
« She jumps so high. How does she do it? »
Lili, curious about Salto the grasshopper, then suggests:
« Let's ask her. »
After following Salto the grasshopper, Lili and Gaston walk softly closer. Salto the grasshopper stops and turns to them. She has big green wings and strong legs.
Salto the grasshopper, curious, asks then:
« Hello, I am Salto. Do you want to know how I jump? »
Lili, eyes sparkling with curiosity, says:
« Yes, we'd love to learn. »
Salto the grasshopper, with a cheeky smile, explains:
« My back legs store energy. I bend my legs, then I release them. And hop, I jump high. »
Salto the grasshopper suggests a jumping game and teaches them to observe the garden from above!
The High Jump Challenge
Salto the grasshopper shows Lili and Gaston how to use their back legs to jump. Gaston tries to copy her movements. The two friends laugh at their attempts. They jump a little, but not very high.
Lili, while hopping, says:
« It's hard, but it's fun. »
Gaston, encouraged, says:
« Yes, I want to try again. »
Salto the grasshopper, curious, explains:
« My legs have tiny hairs. They help to stick to surfaces. »
It is explained that Salto the grasshopper's back legs are specially made for jumping. They are strong and muscular (5), which allows her to make amazing leaps. Lili and Gaston, captivated (6) by Salto the grasshopper's explanations, listen carefully. They are now eager to try the experience and jump like Salto the grasshopper.
Lili, full of excitement, asks:
« Can we jump together? »
Salto the grasshopper, with a big smile, says:
« Of course, let's jump together. Follow me. »
After hopping from flower to flower, Lili the ladybug and Gaston the beetle rest, amazed by the heights. As the sun begins to set, they hear a soft and rhythmic melody (7). Curious, they wonder how Salto the grasshopper, full of energy and curiosity, manages to create such beautiful and soothing music. Always curious, Salto suggests going on a quest to find this mysterious musician. Lili and Gaston, tired but excited, agree to the adventure. Together, they head towards the Butterfly Palace, hoping to find clues about the origin of this enchanting melody.
