📝 Quick summary of key information
How do foxes hunt in the dark?
Foxes are fascinating animals that are very good at hunting in the dark. With their special eyes, they can see even when it is very dark. But how do they catch their prey? And why are they important in their environment? Let's find out together!
Foxes have very special eyes. They have a shiny layer called tapetum lucidum, which helps them see in the dark. This means they can spot prey even when it's very dark, like rabbits or small rodents.
Foxes are very helpful in their environment. They help control the number of small rodents, like mice and rats, which can sometimes cause trouble. By hunting these animals, foxes keep their habitat in balance.
Foxes often live in burrows that they dig themselves or find abandoned. They can live in families, with a pair of adult foxes and their babies, called kits. Foxes talk to each other using different sounds, like barks, screams, and howls.

The Mysterious Tracks
As the sun sets, Nox the owl and Luma the bat wake up for a new night of adventure. Looking at (1) the bright moon, they finally understand why owls and bats are awake only at night. The mysterious (2) voice of Felix the Fox calls them to adventure, guiding them every evening. Nox and Luma decide to follow the mysterious tracks in the forest.
Nox, after looking carefully at the ground, says:
« Look, Luma, footprints! »
Luma, after following the tracks, says:
« Yes, they lead to the clearing. »
After following the tracks, they find a red fox with some white on his face and throat named Felix. With his bright, clever (3) green eyes, he shows them how he hunts quietly. Felix tells them he uses his sharp hearing to find his prey (4), even under the snow or leaves.
Felix the Fox, with a mischievous smile, explains: « I walk silently thanks to my soft paws (5). »
Nox, curious about Felix the Fox's silent steps, asks:
« How do you walk so quietly? »
Felix the Fox, with a mischievous smile, explains:
« My paws soften my steps. »
Felix the Fox tells them that he saw something shiny hidden near the Starry Reflection Lake... A new clue opens up for Nox and Luma!
The Discovery at the Lake of Starry Reflections
Nox and Luma learn that Felix the Fox saw something shiny hidden near the Starry Reflection Lake. This new information opens up a new trail for the two friends.
Luma, excited about this new clue, says:
« Let's go see it up close. »
Nox, after a moment of thought, says:
« Yes, let's follow Felix the Fox. »
Not long after, they arrive at the Starry Reflection Lake. The moon lights up the calm water. Felix the Fox shows a shiny spot on the ground.
Felix the Fox, with a mischievous look, exclaims:
« It's right there, let's dig together. »
After following Felix the Fox's directions, Nox and Luma are led to the Starry Reflection Lake. As they approach the shiny spot, their quiet steps take them to a busy scene. A different animal catches their eye: Oscar the badger, who is digging his burrow with lots of energy (6). They find out why this method is not as simple (7) as it seems!
