The Stoat and the Magic Camouflage
Why does the stoat change color in winter?
Meeting Iris the Stoat
After watching Leo the Lynx blend into the shadows, Lupo and Mila understand the importance of being discreet (1) in the mountains. The lessons from this quiet hunter will help them on their next adventures. They now know that even the smallest details can make a big difference in this wild (2) world. While walking along a stream, Lupo and Mila hear soft footsteps and spot a small, quick figure. It's Iris the Stoat, whose fur (3) is starting to change color with the arrival of spring.
Lupo, curious, asks:
« Hi Iris, did you see that your fur is starting to change color? »
Mila, amazed, adds:
« You're right, Lupo! Iris the Stoat has a snow-white fur and bright blue eyes. She often wears a little ribbon around her neck, a symbol of her storyteller role. Isn't that amazing? »
Iris the Stoat says:
« Yes, in summer it is brown. In winter, it is white. »
Lupo, curious, asks:
« That's true, it's amazing! But why does your fur change color with the seasons? »
Iris the Stoat explains:
« To hide from danger. In winter, the snow is white. In summer, the ground is brown. »
Iris the Stoat tells them that an old natural treasure is hidden somewhere in the mountain… Maybe it is connected to the mysterious secret passages?
The Quest for the Natural Treasure
After hearing about the treasure, Lupo and Mila look at Iris the Stoat with wide eyes. Her fur is starting to change color with the arrival of spring. They can't wait to learn more.
Lupo, eyes sparkling with curiosity, then asks:
« What is this treasure? »
Mila, curious, asks:
« Where is it hidden? »
Iris the Stoat, with a mysterious smile, explains: « You are right, the treasure is the knowledge (4) of the mountain's secrets. It is all around us, but to find it, you need to be attentive and observe the signs that nature sends us. Maybe the secret passages you have heard about will lead you to these secrets. »
Iris the Stoat shows them secret passages in the rocks. She explains that each passage leads to a special place, but she can't show them the secret passages because she doesn't know exactly where they are.
Lupo, impatient, asks:
« Can we go? »
Iris the Stoat, with a mysterious smile, says:
« Yes, follow me. I will show you. »
Intrigued by Iris the Stoat's words, Lupo and Mila are led to a steep (5) path leading to a hidden lake. Iris shows them the way, explaining that this lake is known as the Lake of Silence. Upon arriving at the lake, the two friends discover a hare whose fur is still spotted (6) with white and brown. It's Noa the Changing Hare. They are told how he survives the changing seasons and are guided towards new mysteries hidden in the mountains. The three friends promise to keep exploring and protecting the wonders of their world. It is now known that every detail, every color, and every secret of nature is very important.
