📝 Quick summary of key information

Why does Gaspard the Jerboa jump so high?

The jerboa is a small rodent known for its amazing jumping abilities. It can jump up to three meters high, about 30 times the length of its own body. Its long back legs and strong muscles help it do these tricks.

The jerboa's jumps are very useful in its environment. They help it escape quickly from predators, like snakes and birds of prey. Also, these leaps help it find food by reaching seeds and insects hidden in the tall grass.

The gerbil lives mostly in deserts and dry plains. It digs burrows to protect itself from the sun and predators. It eats mainly seeds, leaves, and insects it finds in its habitat.

The jerboa is a nocturnal animal, which means it is active mainly at night. During the day, it rests in its burrow to avoid the heat and dangers. It spends its nights looking for food and exploring its environment.

Gaspard the Jerboa and the Magic Jump

Why does the jerboa jump so high?

The meeting with Gaspard the Jerboa

After watching Serpent Sable, a graceful and fast sand snake, sliding effortlessly on the hot sand, Sami, the little fennec with golden fur and big ears, and Sélia, the little fennec with sandy fur and ears always perked up, understand the desert's secrets better. They wonder what other wonders the dunes(1) hide, when suddenly, a joyful jump(2) pulls them from their thoughts. A small animal with shiny eyes and strong legs jumps elegantly(3) in the moonlight. Curious(4), Sami and Sélia follow the trail of the mysterious(5) animal.

Sami, curious, asks:
« Who are you? »

Sélia, curious, asks:
« Where are you going? »

Gaspard the Jerboa, with a cheeky smile, introduces himself:
« I am Gaspard the Jerboa. I jump to avoid dangers. »

Sami, curious, asks:
« Why do you jump so high? »

Gaspard the Jerboa, while hopping, says:
« Wow, my back legs are really strong! They help me jump very high and very far, which helps me avoid dangers and explore the desert. Actually, I can jump almost as high as you, Sami, but I can cover a long distance in just one leap! »

Gaspard the Jerboa tells them he saw a mysterious cave where there might be a treasure. He offers to take them there by jumping!

The adventure into the mysterious cave

Gaspard the Jerboa takes Sami and Sélia to the cave. They jump together over the sand dunes. The little fennecs follow Gaspard the Jerboa excitedly.

Sami, curious, asks:
« Is the cave far away? »

Sélia, curious, asks:
« Are we almost there? »

Gaspard the Jerboa, with a big smile, says:
« Yes, we are almost there. Look, it is behind this sand dune. »

After climbing the dune, they see the entrance to the cave. Gaspard the Jerboa waves them in. Sami and Sélia follow Gaspard the Jerboa inside.

Sami, his eyes shining with curiosity, asks:
« What's inside the cave? »

Gaspard the Jerboa, his eyes shining with excitement, then says:
« You will see. There are hidden treasures. Every rock tells a story. »

After exploring the cave and discovering the hidden treasures, Sami and Sélia stepped out into the daylight. They followed the tracks of Gaspard the Jerboa, which led them to a rock where a lizard was lying. Curious, they found out that this lizard, Léo, had a unique way of using the sun's heat. They were told how lizards, thanks to the heat, become faster and more energetic, allowing them to explore the desert with amazing agility(6). Sami and Sélia, amazed by this new discovery, promised to keep exploring the desert's mysteries with their friends. They were told that every animal has its own secrets and that the desert is a fascinating world to discover. Their next adventure awaited them, full of surprises and wonders to explore.
