📝 Quick summary of key information

Why is the peregrine falcon the fastest bird in the world?

The peregrine falcon is the fastest bird in the world. It can fly at amazing speeds, up to 242 miles per hour when diving. This helps it catch its prey quickly, like birds and small mammals.

The peregrine falcon lives in high places, like cliffs, mountains, and even buildings in the city. These spots give it a great view to find its prey.

To catch its prey, the peregrine falcon uses its speed and agility. It dives down very fast to surprise its victims. It mostly eats birds and small mammals.

The peregrine falcon builds its nest on cliffs or tall buildings. The parents take care of their babies, called chicks, by bringing them food and protecting them.

Hawk Pacha and the Sky Chase

Why is the peregrine falcon the fastest bird in the world?

The Plunge

After learning why beetles, like Basile, roll balls of dung across the desert, Sami and Sélia marvel(1) at the hidden wisdom of these tiny insects. They understand that even the smallest desert dwellers have a crucial role to play in this ecosystem(2). The two young fennecs, with their sandy fur, feel ready to discover new wonders. Their endless curiosity drives them to explore more of the mysteries of the golden sand desert. One day, as they run between the dunes(3), they hear a sharp(4) cry above their heads. Curious, they look up and see Hawk Pacha swooping down from the sky like an arrow.

Sami, excited, shouts:
« Look Sélia, it's Hawk Pacha! »

Sélia, with her eyes wide open, shouts:
« He is fast! »

Sami, amazed, asks:
« How does he go so fast? »

Sélia, her eyes sparkling with curiosity, says:
« I don't know, but I want to find out. »

After catching his prey, Hawk Pacha glides gracefully towards the two fennecs. He shows them an ancient symbol drawn in the sand by the wind… This sign guides them to the final step of their adventure!

The Mysterious Symbol

Curious about the mysterious symbol, Sami and Sélia follow Hawk Pacha. Their path takes them through rolling sand dunes and hidden oases. Suddenly, they come across an unexpected obstacle: a deep crack(5) in the ground.

Sami, after looking at the crevice, says:
« I'm sure I can jump over it! »

After looking at the crack, Sélia suggests:
« No, let's find another way. »

Hawk Pacha, after gliding above the crack, says:
« Use the air currents. »

After a few tries, the two fennecs manage to cross the obstacle. Once on the other side, they find a hidden cave. Inside, the walls are covered with ancient symbols.

Sami, curious, asks:
« What are these symbols? »

Sélia, after looking at the symbols, says:
« This is the story of the peregrine falcons. »

After discovering the ancient symbols in the cave, Sami and Sélia are intrigued by the mysterious symbol that Hawk Pacha shows them. They decide to follow it, hoping that this sign will guide them to the final step of their adventure. Their journey takes them through the desert, where they discover the secrets of the peregrine falcons and their incredible speed. The two fennecs understand that peregrine falcons have evolved(6) to be the fastest thanks to their adaptation(7) to hunting in mid-air. They are amazed by the wonders of the desert and the lessons they have learned. After this adventure, Sami and Sélia feel closer to Hawk Pacha and his fascinating world. They now know why the peregrine falcon is the fastest bird in the world. Their insatiable curiosity drives them to discover new wonders. Soon after, they hear about an even greater mystery: why do antelopes run so fast in the desert? Sami and Sélia, ready for a new adventure, set out to find the answers.
