Why do antelopes run so fast in the desert ?
The Meeting with Aïcha the Antelope
After watching the Peregrine Falcon, the fastest bird in the world, swoop down on its prey with amazing speed and precision, Sami and Sélia continue their adventure. They now know that speed and agility (1) are essential for surviving in the desert. The two young fennecs (2), with their sandy fur and sparkling eyes, run happily between the sand dunes, their big ears perked up to catch every little sound. Curious Sélia notices hoofprints in the sand. Sami, look! she exclaims, Someone has been here!
Sami, curious, asks:
« Who left these tracks? »
Curious, Sélia says:
« I don't know. Let's go see! »
Not long after, an elegant figure jumps between the dunes. It's Aïcha the Antelope. With her light brown fur and white spots on her back and sides (3), she moves with natural grace (4). Her eyes are big and expressive, and she has small, curved horns. Her long legs let her run for long distances. She often wears a necklace made of wildflowers she picks during her adventures.
Aïcha the Antelope, curious, then asks:
« Hello, Sami and Sélia! Do you want to know why I run so fast? »
Sami, curious, asks:
« Yes, why? »
Sélia, curious, asks:
« How do you keep from sinking in the sand? »
Aïcha the Antelope, with a mischievous smile, explains:
« My hooves are wide and flat. They help me run fast without sinking. I run fast to escape lions and leopards. »
The two fennecs, amazed, watch Aïcha the Antelope jump with agility. Suddenly, Aïcha the Antelope stops and points her nose at a hidden cave behind a dune. Aïcha the Antelope shows them a hidden cave behind a dune... That's where the forgotten desert treasure is finally found!
The Discovery of the Treasure
Sami and Sélia follow Aïcha the Antelope inside the cave. They are excited to find out what is hidden in this mysterious (5) place.
Sami, amazed, says:
« It's wonderful here! »
Sélia, curious, asks:
« What are all these shiny things? »
Aïcha the Antelope, with a mysterious smile, explains:
« It is an old treasure. The antelopes have kept it for a long time. »
Sami, curious, asks:
« How did you find this place? »
Aïcha the Antelope, with a mischievous look, starts to explain:
« Antelopes have learned to recognize secret signs. We pass on this knowledge. »
After discovering the forgotten desert treasure, Sami and Sélia are amazed by the stories and legends it holds (6). But the desert always has surprises. Who knows what new mysteries or friends, maybe a family of wise camels (7), or a clever sand fox, they will meet on their next adventures? With light hearts and minds full of new knowledge, the exploration of the two fennecs and their antelope friend continues, ready to discover even more mysteries in the desert of golden sands.
