📝 Quick summary of key information
Why do turtles like to swim slowly?
Turtles swim slowly because they have a slow metabolism. This means they don't need much energy to move. They save their energy for other important activities, like eating and having babies.
Their slowness helps them to protect themselves from predators. By moving slowly, they can hide more easily and avoid dangers in their environment. For example, they can blend in with their surroundings or retreat into their shell.
Turtles play an important role in water ecosystems. They eat seaweed and small animals, which helps keep the ocean floor balanced. This way, they help keep their home healthy.
Turtles spend a lot of time resting in the sun. This helps them control their body temperature because they are cold-blooded animals. They also like to swim quietly and explore their surroundings.

The Turtle and the Secret of the Calm Waters
Why do turtles love to swim slowly?
The Mystery of the Still Waters
After finding a frog hidden under a big floating leaf, Timon and Lila, guided by the swirls, wondered why there had been so many swirls in the marsh. Curious (1), they decided to explore more to solve the mystery (2) (3). Timon, the little spotted green frog with big golden eyes, and Lila, the dragonfly with shimmering (4) blue and purple wings, set off towards the Singing River. They hoped to find answers to their questions there.
Soon after, they arrived at the Singing River. The water sparkled in the sunlight. Timon watched the currents (5). Lila danced (6) above the water, discovering new hidden spots. They saw a turtle floating peacefully on a log (7).
Timon, curious, asks:
« Hi Leonie the Turtle! What are you doing here? »
Leonie the Turtle, with a soft and patient voice, says:
« Hello Timon and Lila! I am resting. Have you seen the whirlpools? »
Lila, after watching the swirls, says:
« Yes, we saw them. We want to know why they appear. »
Leonie the Turtle, with her soft and wise voice, begins to explain:
« Have you noticed the swirls? I think I know why they appear. You see, under the water, there is a secret passage. Water currents go through there and create these swirls on the surface. But be careful, this passage is a bit dangerous. It is filled with strong currents and sharp rocks. That's why turtles like me prefer to stay on the surface. We save our energy and watch the movements around us. »
Timon, curious, asks:
« Yes, that's true. But how can we learn more about these whirlpools? Would anyone dare to venture into that secret passage? »
Leonie the Turtle, with her usual wisdom, adds:
« That's true, but there is another possibility. The swirls can be caused by underwater currents or by animals moving under the water. But in this case, I think it is the secret passage that is causing these swirls. You see, the water currents that go through this passage create these swirls on the surface. »
Leonie the Turtle tells them about a secret underwater passage that might be connected to the mysterious swirls… But who dares to venture in?
The Secret Passage
Timon and Lila look at Leonie the Turtle with wide eyes. They wonder if they can also discover the secrets of the secret passage.
Timon, his eyes sparkling with excitement, asks:
« Are we going to explore the secret passage? »
Lila, her eyes shining with curiosity, says:
« Yes, that's a good idea. We need to find out what's hiding over there. »
Leonie the Turtle, with a soft smile, says:
« Okay. Follow me. We will swim slowly. It saves energy. »
Timon and Lila follow Leonie the Turtle. Timon makes incredible leaps and Lila twirls above the water. They watch the colorful fish and the glowing plants. They discover amazing things. However, Leonie the Turtle, the little green turtle with a brown shell striped with yellow, stays still on her log, watching everything with her big curious eyes and her gentle smile.
Timon, amazed, says:
« This is wonderful here. We should come back often. »
Right away, Leonie the Turtle gives Timon and Lila some advice: she tells them to keep a safe distance from the secret passage, because the whirlpools remember the past bravery. Curious, Timon and Lila hurry to understand, following a path of rustling reeds. They then discover an inevitable surprise. Near the Rock of Secrets, Timon and Lila see Leonie the Turtle, who stays still, watching the water carefully. Curious, our young adventurers wonder why this wise turtle does not move. Leonie, with a mysterious smile, explains that sometimes, stillness is the best way to discover nature's secrets. Timon and Lila, fascinated, decide to stay still to observe the water's movements. They then discover that the whirlpools were caused by fish trying to protect themselves from predators. Timon, amazed, understands that patience and observation are essential to uncover nature's mysteries. Lila, on the other hand, realizes that slowness can be a source of wisdom. Together, they return to the marsh, ready to share their discoveries with their friends. The next adventure is already waiting, full of surprises and mysteries to solve.
