📝 Quick summary of key information

Why is Sylvaine the Adder such a great swimmer?

The snake is a great swimmer because of its long and flexible body. It can move quickly in the water with its wavy movements, like a ballerina on her tiptoes.

The snake often lives near rivers, lakes, and marshes. It uses its swimming skills to move easily in these water habitats, where it finds food and shelters.

To hunt, the snake hides under the water and waits patiently. When some prey, like a fish or a frog, comes nearby, it jumps on it very quickly.

The snake plays an important role in its ecosystem by controlling the population of small water animals. It helps to keep the natural balance of its environment.

Why is the adder such a great swimmer?

The Meeting with Sylvaine the Adder

After learning why muskrats like Remus build burrows in the riverbanks, Timon the frog and Lila the dragonfly continue their exploration. They discover hidden secrets in the roots of the submerged trees. Timon the frog jumps with agility(1), while Lila the dragonfly dances(2) with grace, guiding their steps towards new adventures. They head towards the Lily Pad Pond, where the water sparkles under the sunlight. It is there that they spot a sleek(3) figure gliding between the reeds. Intrigued(4), they decide to follow this mysterious creature.

Timon, curious, asks:
« Who is it? »

Lila, curious, says:
« I don't know. Let's go see. »

Soon after, they discover that the creature is Sylvaine the Adder. She gracefully slides between the reeds. Her shiny, colorful scales reflect the sunlight. Timon, curious, wants to know more.

Timon, curious, asks:
« Why do you swim so well, Sylvaine the Adder? »

Lila, curious, explains then: « Sylvaine the Adder uses her tail to swim(5) in the water. »

Sylvaine the Adder tells them that she saw a colorful spark dive quickly into the water... Another clue to explore!

The Secret of the Waves

It is explained that Sylvaine the Adder uses her tail to swim in the water, but also that her body moves gracefully. These smooth movements allow her to travel long distances underwater. She can thus hunt her prey(6) with great efficiency.

Timon, curious, asks:
« Why do your scales shine? »

Lila, curious, asks:
« Yes, why? »

Sylvaine the Adder explains:
« My scales reduce friction with the water. This lets me move quickly and quietly. »

Timon and Lila learn that Sylvaine the Adder's shiny, colorful scales, mostly green and blue, help her move quickly and quietly. They are amazed by this show. It is also revealed that the adder is harmless to humans. She mainly eats small fish and water insects.

Sylvaine the Adder, with a soft and wise voice, says: « Patience and observation are important in nature. My colors help me to camouflage(7) and to surprise my prey. »

Curious about the colorful sparkle, Timon and Lila decide to follow the trail to the Singing River. That's where they hope to find the truth. Near the Singing River, they look up and spot a colorful sparkle under the water. They get closer and discover Sylvaine the Adder, gracefully sliding between the reeds. Sylvaine tells them she saw a colorful sparkle dive quickly under the water... Another clue to explore! Happy with their discovery, Timon and Lila decide to continue their adventure, ready to uncover new secrets of the Wonder Marsh.
