📝 Quick summary of key information

Why are earthworms important for the soil?

An earthworm is a small animal without legs that lives under the ground. You can find them in gardens, parks, and even in forests. They are often brown or red and have a long, thin body.

Earthworms live in tunnels they dig in the ground. They eat dead leaves, small roots, and organic matter. They move by contracting and relaxing, a bit like a spring.

Worms are very important for the soil. By digging tunnels, they make the soil airy, which helps water and air move better. This helps plants grow more easily.

Worms also make the soil rich with nutrients. When they eat organic matter, they turn it into natural fertilizer called humus, which feeds the plants and helps them grow.

Leo the Earthworm and the Magic Soil

Why are earthworms important for the soil?

Meeting Leo the Earthworm

After exploring Rafa the Vole's burrow, Milo and Noa discovered how these little rodents dig complex tunnels to protect themselves and store food. Rafa showed them his many rooms and tunnels, leaving them amazed by the cleverness(1) of voles. As they were about to leave, Milo felt a slight vibration under her paws. Intrigued, they decided to follow this sensation, hoping to find a new adventure.

Not long after, Milo and Noa found themselves in an underground(2) tunnel filled with damp earth and roots. The earth smelled fresh and the roots were everywhere.

Milo, curious, says:
« Look, Noa, a little earthworm. »

Noa, while looking at the earthworm, says:
« It wriggles between the soil particles. »

Milo, curious, suggests:
« Let's go see him. »

After joining the little worm, Milo and Noa watched him with curiosity. Leo, always full of energy, then explained to them how he aerates(3) the soil by digging tunnels. This helps plants grow better. The two friends were then impressed by how Leo eats leaves and bits of decaying(4) plants. This way, he turns the soil into fertile ground.

While digging with him, they find a shiny crystal piece… a new clue to find the treasure!

The Discovery of the Crystal Piece

With the crystal fragment in hand, Milo the mole and Noa the hedgehog wondered what it could reveal. Curious, they decided to continue their exploration. As night fell over the Underground Kingdom, Milo and Noa heard a soft song echoing through the tunnels. Leo, always full of curiosity, explained that the song came from the crickets, who communicate with each other this way. Together, they decided to follow the song to discover more hidden wonders beneath the earth. The next adventure awaited them, full of mysteries(5)(6) and discoveries.

Milo, curious, asks:
« Where are we going now? »

Noa, after listening carefully to the song, suggests:
« Let's follow the song of the crickets. »

Milo, after nodding her head, says:
« Okay, let's go. »

They walked carefully through the tunnels. The glow of the glowing mushrooms lit their way. The walls were wet and the roots hung from the ceiling. Milo and Noa felt safe with Leo the Earthworm.

After walking for a while, they arrived in a big cave(7). In the middle, a small clear spring(8) was flowing gently. The crickets sang louder here. Milo and Noa sat down near the spring to listen.
