📝 Quick summary of key information
How do ants build underground tunnels?
Ants are tiny, fascinating creatures that live in colonies. They build underground tunnels to protect themselves and organize their lives. These tunnels are like underground homes, filled with hallways and rooms.
Ants dig tunnels using their mandibles, which are like tiny, strong pincers. They carry the dirt they dig out to the outside of their nest. It is teamwork, because every ant plays an important role in building it.
Tunnels help protect the colony from outside dangers like predators. They also help store food and raise the larvae, the baby ants. It's like a big house with rooms for everyone.
In their tunnels, ants have a very organized life. There are queens who lay the eggs, workers who work, and soldiers who protect the colony. Each one has an important job so everything runs smoothly.

How do ants build underground tunnels?
The Giant Anthill
After learning from Ruben the Rhinoceros Beetle why he digs tunnels (1), Milo and Noa follow the big tunnel dug by the beetle. They find out that each underground animal has a unique reason to dig and build, and they can't wait to see what the next creature will show them. Milo, the hedgehog with golden spikes on her back and shiny eyes like little lanterns, and Noa, the mischievous hedgehog, carefully walk through the dark tunnel, their eyes sparkling with excitement. Suddenly, they spot a small black figure moving quickly in front of them. It's Flora the Ant, their brave friend, who greets them happily.
Flora the Ant, with an enthusiastic smile, asks:
« Hello Milo, hello Noa! Are you coming to visit our anthill? »
Milo, with a curious smile, says:
« Yes, Flora the Ant! We want to see how you build your tunnels. »
Noa, curious, asks:
« And how do you build your tunnels. »
Flora the Ant, with an excited smile, says:
« Follow me! I will show you. »
Soon after, Flora the Ant takes them to a bright tunnel. The ants work together. They use their jaws to dig the ground. Flora the Ant explains that ants communicate with pheromones (2). These smelly substances show the way. Milo watches the ants carry sand and leaves. Noa admires the smooth walls of the tunnels.
Flora the Ant, with a proud smile, starts to explain: « Ants build complex (3) tunnels. They live there and store their food. »
Flora the Ant shows them a forgotten tunnel in the anthill where a strange stone is buried… A new clue to their treasure!
The Mystery of the Stone
Milo and Noa go near the stone. It glows softly. Flora the Ant explains that this stone is special. It helps the ants find their way.
Milo, curious, asks:
« How does this stone help you? »
Flora the Ant explains: « It gives off (4) a faint light. The ants follow this light. They know where to go. »
Noa, amazed, shouts:
« It's magical! »
Flora the Ant smiles. She shows them another tunnel. It is smaller and dark. Milo and Noa are curious. They want to see what is inside.
Milo, excited by the discovery, says:
« Let's go see this tunnel! »
After admiring the dark tunnel, Flora the Ant leads them to another passage. Intrigued by the mysterious stone, Milo and Noa decide to follow Flora the Ant into a new tunnel. While exploring a dark cave, they discover a forgotten hallway in the anthill where a strange stone is buried. That's when they meet Sasha the Centipede (5), who quickly slips between the rocks. The friends learn that Sasha loves dark and damp places because she finds hidden treasures and secret paths there. They discover that every corner of their underground world holds (6) surprises!
