The Colorful Vegetable Party

Why is it important to eat vegetables of different colors?

The Big Vegetable Party

After learning how important vegetables are for the nutrition(1) of animals and humans, a big party is organized in the Enchanted Garden. That morning, the vegetables seem especially happy. The carrots whisper jokes, and the tomatoes blush with joy. Curious, Little Pig and Chevrette decide to find out what is happening.

Soon after, they hear laughter and whispers. The vegetables are getting ready for a big party. Each color of vegetable has a unique story to tell.

Little Pig, curious, asks:
« Why are the vegetables so happy today? »

Chevrette, curious, asks:
« Yes, what's happening? »

A little red tomato comes up to them. It explains that each color of vegetable has special benefits. Green vegetables, like spinach and beans, are rich in vitamin K. This vitamin helps with blood clotting(2). Red vegetables, like tomatoes and peppers, are full of vitamin C. Vitamin C helps to boost the immune system(3). Orange vegetables, like carrots and squash, contain vitamin A. Vitamin A is important for vision(4). Yellow and orange vegetables, like corn and pumpkins, are rich in antioxidants(5). Antioxidants help to protect the body's cells. Purple vegetables, like eggplants and beets, contain anthocyanins. Anthocyanins have anti-inflammatory properties. White vegetables, like cabbages and mushrooms, are rich in fiber(6) and B vitamins.

Little Pig, amazed, says:
« Wow, this is amazing! »

Chevrette, her eyes sparkling, exclaims:
« That's awesome! I'm going to try eating all the colors to be super healthy! »

The friends learn that eating a variety of colorful vegetables helps to keep a balanced(7) diet and stay healthy. Suddenly, a little bouncy carrot comes up to them and offers a challenge: find a vegetable of each color to prepare a balanced meal. Little Pig and Chevrette accept with enthusiasm and start their quest.

The Colorful Vegetable Quest

Once the challenge is on, the hunt for colorful vegetables begins. The green vegetables are found quickly: fresh spinach and crunchy green beans are added to the basket. Next, the red vegetables are spotted: ripe tomatoes and shiny peppers are added to the collection. The orange vegetables are not far away: crunchy carrots and plump pumpkins are found easily. Finally, the yellow vegetables, like corn and zucchini, are easy to spot because of their bright colors.

Little Pig, all excited, shouts:
« Look, Chevrette! I found orange carrots! »

Chevrette, all excited, shouts:
« Great! Let's take them. »

Purple vegetables, like eggplants and beets, are a bit harder to find, but the friends keep trying. They look under the leaves and behind the bushes. Finally, they find some white vegetables, like cabbages.

Little Pig, very excited, announces:
« We found edible mushrooms! »

Chevrette, very excited, shouts:
« Great, we have all the vegetables! »

After learning about the benefits of colorful vegetables, Little Pig and Chevrette are invited to a big party in the Enchanted Garden. The vegetables, proud of their colors and benefits, are ready to share their nutritious stories. The friends can't wait to find out how each vegetable color helps with a balanced diet and good health.
