📝 Quick summary of key information

What can we guess by looking at a painted face?

A portrait is a drawing or a painting that shows someone's face. Artists love to make them to capture how someone looks and feels. It's like taking a photo, but with pencils or brushes!

In a portrait, you can see lots of interesting things. For example, the person's eyes can look happy, sad, or even mysterious. The clothes and things around can tell a story about the person.

Painters choose how to paint a portrait by thinking about the person's personality. They decide on the pose, colors, and details to show who the model really is. Sometimes, they add things that tell a story.

Portraits are important because they show us what people looked like in the past. They can also teach us things about their lives and feelings. It's like a trip back in time!

A famous example of a portrait is the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. It is a painting of a woman with a mysterious smile. She is famous because no one really knows who she is or why she smiles like that. It is a true mystery!

The Secrets of the Painted Faces

After watching the painting machines and flying plans of Leonardo da Vinci, Lina and Hugo discover that art can also be a science(1). But that's not all. A soft light suddenly shines on a secret passage, and the two curious friends decide to explore it. They find themselves in a large square filled with giant canvases of faces. The portraits seem to watch them with curiosity, and Lina and Hugo are immediately drawn to this living gallery(2).

Lina, amazed, whispers:
« Look Hugo, these faces are moving. »

Hugo, amazed, whispers:
« Yes, they blink and smile. »

Lina, amazed, whispers:
« It's magical, Hugo. It's like they're talking to us. »

Hugo, curious about the moving faces, says:
« Let's go take a closer look, Lina. »

Not long after, Lina goes up to a painting of a woman with deep eyes. She notices the tiny lines(3) around the eyes and the soft colors that bring the gaze to life. Hugo, on the other hand, looks at a portrait of a man with strong features and thick eyebrows. He is amazed(4) by the colors and the lines mixed in an unexpected way that show the model(5)'s determination. The two children realize that each portrait tells a unique story.

A portrait winks at them and comes to life to whisper: Look deep into the eyes, the soul dances there. And a painted eye opens up for their next adventure!

Captured Feelings

Following the mysterious(6) advice, Lina and Hugo let themselves be guided by a fox with sparkling eyes. They pass through the open eye and find themselves in a bright village. The colorful houses, each unique, invite them to discover the secrets of each artist. The children are eager to see what each house has to offer. They promise to return to the Portrait Square to continue exploring the wonders of art. With a smile and a wink, they head towards the next adventure, ready to discover new enchanted worlds.

Lina, amazed, says:
« Look, Hugo, this house is blue. »

Hugo, pointing with his finger, exclaims:
« And this one is yellow. »

Lina, drawn to the soothing colors, suggests:
« Let's go see the blue one, it's more peaceful. »

Hugo, after taking a quick look at the blue house, says:
« Okay, but after that we go to the yellow one. »

Lina and Hugo enter the blue house. Inside, they find paintings with soft colors and flowing(7) shapes. Each portrait seems to tell a story of calm and peace. The children observe the tiny details of the faces, the shadows, and the lights that create depth. They understand that each artist has their own way of capturing emotions. They feel soothed by the beauty of the artworks.

After admiring the paintings, they decide to visit the yellow house. Inside, they find portraits with bright colors and geometric shapes. Each face seems to express joy and energy. Hugo imagines how he could paint a face using bright colors and geometric shapes to express joy and energy. Lina, on the other hand, thinks about using soft colors and flowing shapes to capture tranquility and peace. They realize that every artist has their own way of telling stories through the faces they paint.
