📝 Quick summary of key information

What secrets do the big, curly clouds hide?

Cumulus clouds are well-known clouds, often called big fluffy clouds. They have a round shape and clear edges, like giant cotton balls in the sky.

These clouds form when there is lots of heat and moisture in the air. The warm air rises and cools down high up, making these big, fluffy white clouds.

Cumulus clouds can bring rain if the air keeps rising and cooling. They can also provide nice shade, especially on hot days, helping plants and animals to rest.

The shadows of big, fluffy clouds are very important. They help keep the ground cool, protecting living things from the sun's strong rays.

The Cloud Chain

What secrets do the big fluffy clouds hide?

The Discovery of the Cumulus Clouds

After learning that clouds grow when it's cool, Pluma, the little dreamy cloud, lets herself glide into a sea of cool air. She watches as steam turns into tiny(1) water droplets(2). She sees thousands of droplets come together to form bigger and denser(3) clouds. Curious, she decides to follow Nimbus, her big brother, to learn more about these big, light gray clouds with silvery edges.

Soon after, Pluma sees a chain of white hills in the sky. She admires huge, lively clouds. She watches how they form and move, pushed by the air currents.

Pluma, curious, asks:
« Nimbus, how do you get so big? »

Nimbus, the wise and protective cloud, starts to explain:
« You see, Pluma, those cumulus clouds you are watching over there, they change in size and shape depending on what is happening in the air around them. Sometimes, they become huge and full of life, like the ones you see now. Other times, they can turn into darker and denser clouds, ready to bring the rain. »

Pluma, curious, asks:
« How do these clouds decide how they look and behave? »

Nimbus, with his deep and soothing voice, explains:
« Cumulus clouds are thick and puffy. They can bring rain or nice shade. »

Pluma is then approached by an old Cumulus Grumbol. He explains to her how he can turn into a storm or just a shelter depending on the weather(4) conditions.

The Secrets of the Cumulus Clouds

After listening to Cumulus Grumbol's adventures, Pluma is amazed. She understands the mysteries of the clouds better now.

Pluma, amazed, asks:
« Wow, that's amazing! I'd love to know how you become a cumulus. Could you explain how it's done? »

Nimbus, with his deep and soothing voice, explains:
« To become a cumulus, you need lots of moisture and heat. »

Pluma, curious, asks:
« But how do I get this warmth? »

Nimbus, with his deep and soothing voice, explains:
« The sun warms the air. The warm air rises and forms clouds. »

Pluma, curious, asks:
« And what about the moisture? »

Nimbus, with a deep and soothing voice, explains: « Water from the oceans evaporates(5). Warm air carries this water. »

After listening to Cumulus Grumbol's explanations about how clouds form, Pluma is amazed by the magic of nature. She admires the huge, lively clouds that pass by. Following a chain of white hills in the sky, she meets a grumpy old cumulus cloud. He tells her how he forms depending on the weather conditions. Fascinated by this new knowledge, Pluma feels ready to explore more of the sky's mysteries. She now knows that every cloud has a role to play in nature's balance(6), and she can't wait to share her discoveries with Cumulus Grumbol, the little cloud genius.
