📝 Quick summary of key information
Why does the wind get stronger when it climbs the mountains?
Today, we will find out why the wind gets stronger when it goes up mountains. Imagine the wind is like a runner going up a hill. The higher it goes, the faster it gets!
Wind is just air that moves. When it hits a mountain, it has to go up. As it goes up, it gets squeezed and goes faster, like a balloon that inflates and deflates quickly.
This speeding up makes whirlwinds and gusts. These gusts can form clouds and even start storms. It's like the wind is playing hide and seek with the clouds!
These things can change the weather. For example, the sky can get cloudier or stormier. It's amazing to see how the wind affects our weather!

Why does the wind get stronger when it climbs the mountains?
The Climb to the Peaks
After watching how the sun creates hot winds in the golden desert, Zéphir, a clever and adventurous wind, is seen flying over the dunes where sand whirlwinds draw fascinating patterns. He is seen admiring the jerboas (1) jumping to escape the intense heat before gaining altitude (2). Zéphir is joined by Brisa, a gentle and playful breeze, who loves to tickle trees and carry the scents of the world. Together, they are described as eager to discover how the wind changes as it rises towards the peaks. Zéphir, with his little silver cloud, his spiral scarf, his cheeks puffed with wind, and his laughter that makes the leaves tremble, is eager to see what the mountains have to teach him. Brisa, with her translucent ribbons floating around her, is curious to see how the winds behave at high altitudes. After watching the dunes, Zéphir and Brisa decide to head towards the mountains, where the wind roars between the peaks, sneaking and bursting in gusts (3). They meet an old mountain current[ (4)](#defin (5)ition-4) named Rafalou of the Peaks who teaches them how the mountains shape (6) (7) the winds of the sky.
Zéphir, eyes sparkling with excitement, asks:
« Brisa, have you seen these mountains? »
Brisa, amazed, says:
« Yes, Zéphir! They are huge! »
Zéphir, excited, shouts:
« Let's go see what's happening up there! »
Soon after, Zéphir and Brisa reach the icy peaks. The wind roars between the peaks, sneaking and bursting in gusts. They discover powerful whirlwinds and fast winds. The mountains seem to shape the winds of the sky.
Brisa, curious, asks:
« Why is the wind so strong here? »
Zéphir, curious, wonders:
« I don't know, Brisa. Maybe the mountains change the wind. »
They meet an old mountain breeze named Rafalou of the Peaks who teaches them how mountains shape the winds in the sky.
The Secrets of the Gusts
Rafalou of the Peaks shows them the valleys and the peaks. The mountains push the winds up high. The winds rise quickly and become strong.
Zéphir, amazed, exclaims:
« It's incredible! The mountains change everything! »
Brisa, amazed, says:
« Yes, Zéphir! The winds are faster here. »
Rafalou of the Peaks, after watching the winds, explains:
« Mountains make obstacles. Winds must go around the peaks. »
Zéphir, amazed, says:
« This is amazing! Thanks to the mountains, the winds move fast and can even create storms. The peaks and valleys make them change direction and speed up. »
Brisa, amazed, looks at the sky and says: « Clouds form quickly. They become big (8) and thick. »
After discovering the secrets of the mountains, Zéphir and Brisa head towards the big blue sky. There, they will meet a trade wind, a sea breeze that carries clouds and storms over the oceans, revealing the mysteries of constant winds. Rafalou of the Peaks, the little curious and adventurous squirrel, happy to have helped them, waves goodbye from his favorite peak. Zéphir and Brisa, full of new knowledge, fly towards the horizon, ready for their next adventure. They now know that mountains are not just obstacles, but wind sculptors, creating unique and fascinating weather (9) landscapes.
