📝 Quick summary of key information

Can we share ideas without getting caught?

During the Revolution, there were people who wanted to share important ideas. But at that time, there was censorship. Censorship is when you stop people from saying or writing certain things.

To avoid being stopped, the messengers had to send their messages in secret. They used hidden paths in Paris to move quietly, like mice in an attic.

These messengers took big risks. They could get caught by the authorities and be punished. But they kept going, because they knew their messages were important.

It was very important to share these ideas to tell people and try to change things. Even when some ideas are not allowed, they can still travel and inspire changes.

The Secrets of Paris Passages

Can you pass on ideas without getting caught?

The Mysterious Alleys

Lucien and Manon leave the neighborhood print shop(1), their hands still stained with ink. They helped print posters calling for freedom. A little gray cat follows them, curious about what's happening in the alleys of Paris. Lucien explains to Manon how words can travel faster than the wind, thanks to the print shop. They know that ideas must spread secretly to avoid the watchful(2) eyes of the king's soldiers. The cat, named Mimi, follows them, meowing softly, as if she understands the importance of their mission.

Lucien, in a determined voice, says:
« Let's follow the narrow alleys. The soldiers won't see us. »

Manon, looking around quickly, says:
« Okay. But let's hurry. The patrols come often. »

After going through narrow alleys, they pass by the kitchens of a theater. They slip a paper into a bread basket. The Masked Baker guides them through the safest paths, avoiding the soldiers' patrols. They must be careful, because walls have ears and shadows can hide spies(3).

Lucien, looking around, whispers:
« We must be careful. Every move matters. »

Manon, after quickly looking around, said:
« I know. We need to avoid prying eyes. »

After slipping the paper into the bread basket, the children discover a series of mysterious symbols. These symbols form a secret code that they will need to learn to decode(4) to help the cause.

The Secret Code

After finding the secret code, Lucien and Manon look at each other with excitement. They know they need to learn to decode it quickly.

Lucien, after looking at the symbols, says:
« Let's go to The Masked Baker. He can help us. »

Manon, convinced, says:
« Yes, he knows a lot of things. He will be able to read these symbols. »

After running through the alleys, they arrive in front of the bakery. The Masked Baker greets them with a big smile. He invites them to come in.

The Masked Baker, eyes shining, says:
« What a surprise! You found a secret code. »

Lucien, after taking the paper out of his pocket, says:
« Yes, we need to figure it out. Can you help us? »

The Masked Baker, with a kind smile, explains:
« Of course. Each symbol stands for a letter or a word. »

After decoding(5) the secret code, the two friends head to a garden where lively(6) discussions are happening under the big oak trees. An old black dog guides them to a group of adults talking about a future where every child can learn and be free. Lucien and Manon approach, curious about these new and hopeful words. They know their mission is far from over, but they are determined(7) to keep spreading ideas of freedom and equality. Mimi, the little cat, watches them with pride, as if she understands the importance of their role in this big adventure.
