📝 Quick summary of key information

How is music made and why is it important to us?

Music is made of sounds organized into melodies and rhythms. It can be soft like a lullaby or energetic like a dance. Music is all around us, in movies, games, and even in nature.

Musicians use instruments or their voices to make sounds. These sounds are put together to create melodies and rhythms. For example, a piano can play high and low notes, while a guitar can strum strings to make happy sounds.

Music plays an important role in culture. It helps us express our feelings, like happiness or sadness. It also helps us talk to others, whether we are singing a song or dancing together.

Every culture has its own types of music and instruments. For example, in Africa, drums are often used to celebrate special events. In India, the sitar is a traditional instrument that tells old stories.

The Magic of Music

How is music made and why is it important to us?

Meeting the Musician

After talking to the local musician, Lucas and Elodie were amazed(1) by the magic of music and how it affects our lives. They learned how to write a song and wrote an article to share this discovery with other children. While they were in the Writing Room at the Little Journalists' Studio, a soft and enchanting(2) melody was heard coming from the News Café. Curious(3), they decided to follow the music to find out where it was coming from.

When they arrived at the News Café, they found The Musician, sitting in a corner, playing his violin very softly. His sparkling eyes and warm smile immediately attracted the children. Lucas and Elodie were captivated by the music.

Lucas, amazed, says:
« You play so well! »

Elodie, amazed, asks:
« It's amazing how your melodies can take us to other worlds. How do you make such magical songs? »

The Musician, with a warm smile, starts to explain:
« Oh, thank you so much! You know, writing a song is a bit like telling a story with sounds. You take some notes, arrange them into melodies and rhythms, and then add words to bring your story to life. It's a bit magical, isn't it? »

Lucas, eyes shining with curiosity, asks:
« Wow! Could you explain how to write a song? »

The Musician, with a warm smile, explains:
« Of course, I will show you how to use different notes and instruments to create a melody. First, you choose a starting note, then you add more notes to create a melody. After that, you can add instruments to enrich the sound. For example, a guitar can play the main melody, while a piano can add harmonious chords in the background. You see, it's like building a house with bricks of sounds! »

Lucas took notes in his notebook, while Elodie took pictures of The Musician in action. The Musician also talked to them about how important music is in culture(4) and expressing feelings. He explained that every note and every beat can tell a different story.

They write an article about the magic of music and its impact on our lives. Their article helps children appreciate music. Once Lucas and Elodie finish their article, they decide to share their discovery with all the kids in the neighborhood. They organize a small party at the Little Journalists' Studio.

Writing the Article

The day of the party has arrived. The room is filled with laughter and music. Lucas and Elodie greet the children with smiles. The Musician, with his curly hair and feathered hat, shows colorful instruments and sheet music(5).

Lucas, excited, starts to talk:
« Look at all these amazing instruments! Here are drums and flutes. You can touch them and even try to play a few notes. Music is magical, and today, we are all going to make some together! »

Elodie, full of excitement, adds: « And maracas and xylophones(6). »

The Musician, with a big smile, invites the kids by saying:
« Every kid can try an instrument. »

Lucas, with a big smile, asks:
« Do you want to play the drum? »

Elodie, with a curious smile, asks:
« Or the flute? »

The Musician, with an encouraging smile, says:
« Try the maracas. It's easy. »

After writing their article about the magic of music, Lucas and Elodie are ready for a new adventure. With their chatty parrot, Pablo, and their curious fox, Renardin, they head to the park for a day of sports. They will discover different sports and why they are good for health by interviewing local athletes.
