📝 Quick summary of key information
How do you make strong and pretty doors and windows?
Doors and windows are made by skilled craftsmen called carpenters. These wood experts know how to turn planks into strong and pretty things.
To make a door or a window, carpenters start by cutting the wood carefully. Then, they put the pieces together and sand them to make the surface smooth.
These steps are very important. They help make doors and windows that last a long time and are nice to look at.
Carpenters don't just make doors and windows. They can also create stairs, frames, and even furniture for the house.

How do you make strong and pretty doors and windows?
The Magical Tools of the Carpenter
After watching the colorful wires and electrical outlets that the electrician placed with precision, Léon and Lila, a little girl in pink safety boots, with a sketchbook in her hands, head towards The Carpenter (1) Diego's workshop. In this space filled with the smell of fresh wood, a German Shepherd dog named Boisvert greets them with happy barks. The Carpenter Diego shows them his fascinating tools: saw, plane, and wood glue. They are ready to discover the secrets of carpentry.
Léon, curious, asks:
« What is this tool? »
Lila, pointing at the tool, explains:
« It is a saw. It is used to cut wood. »
The Carpenter Diego, with an encouraging smile, says:
« Yes, Lila is right. Look, I am going to cut a board. »
The Carpenter Diego takes the saw and starts to cut a piece of wood. Lila watches every move carefully.
Léon, eyes sparkling, exclaims:
« I want to try. »
The Carpenter Diego, with an encouraging smile, says:
« Alright, Lila. Hold the saw like this. Be careful. »
Lila watches The Carpenter Diego take the saw and cut a small board. She takes a plane and starts to smooth a small board. Meanwhile, she puts together a small window model. When she opens a drawer, she finds a wood shaving (2) in the shape of a heart... a clue as soft as fresh wood!
The Steps of Woodworking
After cutting the board, Lila keeps building her model. She takes the heart-shaped wood shaving and puts it in her pocket.
Lila, curious about the tools and materials, asks:
« The Carpenter Diego, why is wood so important? »
The Carpenter Diego, while continuing his work, explains to Lila: « Wood is strong and beautiful. It can last a long time. You can paint it and varnish (3) it. »
Léon, full of excitement, asks The Carpenter Diego:
« I would really like to build a wooden door, like the ones you make, The Carpenter Diego. What is the first thing to do? »
The Carpenter Diego, with an encouraging smile, says:
« Alright, Léon. We start by drawing the door. Then, we put the pieces together. »
The Carpenter Diego takes out a pencil and some paper. He draws a door with precise (4) measurements. Lila, the little girl in pink safety boots with a sketchbook in her hands, and Léon, the little boy with a yellow helmet that's too big and a blue overalls full of pockets, watch carefully. They are going to draw too.
While Lila draws houses in her notebook, she wonders how the different parts of a house are put together (5). She discovers that each part, like a door or a window, needs special tools and precise techniques. The Carpenter Diego explains that carpenters, for example, use special tools and precise techniques to put each part together. Next time, she will discover the secrets of the roofers (6) and how they work to protect the houses.
