📝 Quick summary of key information
How can an airplane fly?
Airplanes are amazing machines that can fly in the sky. But how do they stay up there? The answer is in the wings of the airplane. The wings have a special shape that creates a force called lift.
This power pushes the airplane up and helps it overcome gravity, which is the force that pulls us down to the ground. Lift is created by the difference in pressure between the top and bottom of the wing.
The top part of the wing is more curved than the bottom part. When the plane moves forward, the air goes faster over the wing than under it. This difference in speed creates a difference in pressure, pushing the plane up.
Because of this difference in pressure, the airplane can fly and take us on a trip. The wings of an airplane have a special shape that helps create lift, allowing airplanes to defy gravity and fly in the sky.

The First Flight
How can an airplane fly?
Get Ready for the First Flight
After exploring the airplanes at the museum, Diego, a brave 10-year-old boy who loves airplanes, and Mia, a curious 9-year-old girl, are ready for their first flying adventure. Meeting a veteran (1) pilot inspired them to learn more about flying. Today, they are heading to Dream Airport, where a new adventure awaits them.
Diego, smiling big, says:
« I am so excited! Finally, we are here! The Dream Aerodrome is even more amazing than I thought. Can you believe it, Diego? We are going to take off for our first flight soon! »
Mia, eyes sparkling with excitement, exclaims:
« I am so excited! I can't believe we are finally going to take off. It's a dream come true! »
Diego, all excited, shouts:
« Look, the instructor is coming! »
Soon after, a man with a friendly smile comes over to them. He explains that airplanes fly because of the lift (2) created by the wings. He shows them the different parts of the airplane, focusing on the wings that, because of their shape, create a difference in pressure between the top and bottom.
Diego, fascinated, says:
« I understand why wings are so important! It's because of them that the airplane can fly up in the air, right? »
Mia, curious, asks:
« Yes, it's amazing! But how exactly do the wings create that difference in pressure that lets the airplane fly up? »
While talking to their instructor, Diego and Mia learn how the wings' lift helps the airplane fly up in the air. They take off successfully and feel the magic of flying. After flying over beautiful landscapes, they discover an unexpected technical problem.
The Magic of Flying
Once the red light comes on, Diego and Mia look at the instructor. They wait for his instructions. The instructor tells them to stay calm and check the instruments.
Diego, worried, asks:
« What is the cause of the problem? »
Mia, curious and determined, asks:
« Yes, what do we have to do? »
The instructor shows them the instruments to check. He explains how to spot problems. Diego and Mia follow his instructions carefully. They quickly find the cause of the problem.
Diego, after checking the instruments, says:
« We checked the instruments and found that there is a lift problem in the wings. That's what is stopping the airplane from taking off properly. »
Mia, after checking the instruments, explains: « We checked the instruments and found out it's a wing design (3) problem. That's what keeps the airplane from taking off properly. »
After fixing the wings' lift problem, Diego and Mia are ready to take off. The instructor then tells them they have a special mission to complete. They are asked to go to the Seaplane Valley, a magical place where they will meet a beaver named Castorino. He will explain how seaplanes (4), with their floats, can land softly on water, defying gravity (5). Diego and Mia can't wait to discover this new challenge and continue their adventure in the fascinating world of aviation.
