The Magic Spice Garden

Which spices are used in baking and why?

The Magic Spice Discovery

After meeting the little being Levain, a living yeast that showed them how dough rises with the help of tiny organisms(1), Leo and Lila understood the importance of time and patience in making bread. They saw with their own eyes how the starter turns simple dough into soft and golden bread. Soon after, the two children find themselves in the Ingredient(2) Garden, a magical place where plants with extraordinary properties grow. Leo, with his boundless energy, and Lila, with her legendary precision, are ready to discover new baking secrets.

Leo, amazed, says:
« Look, Lila, all these plants are wonderful! »

Lila, with a curious smile, says:
« Yes, Leo. Each plant has different features, like leaves, flowers, or fruits. »

Leo, amazed, says:
« Look, there are leaves, flowers, and fruits everywhere! Why do some plants have such different leaves? »

Lila, with her legendary precision, explains: « Every plant has its own needs for light, water, and nutrients(3). »

Lila, always curious, says:
« For example, cinnamon grows in warm and humid climates. »

Leo, curious, asks:
« And the vanilla? »

Lila, looking at a plant, then explains: « Vanilla loves tropical(4) places. »

They pick cinnamon sticks, vanilla pods, and fresh ginger to make scented cakes. They learn to measure the spices to get balanced(5) flavors.

The Making of Scented Cakes

After picking cinnamon sticks, vanilla pods, and fresh ginger, they go back to the Baker's Workshop. Leo and Lila are excited to make scented cakes.

Leo, curious, asks:
« Which spices do we use first? »

Lila, patiently, starts to explain:
« We start with cinnamon. It gives a nice smell. »

Leo, ready to act, says:
« Okay. I'll break it now. »

Leo grinds the cinnamon carefully. Lila adds the vanilla pods. They mix the spices well with the dough.

Lila, with a mischievous smile, says:
« Now, the ginger. It gives a spicy taste. »

After mixing the spices with the dough, Leo and Lila taste their creation. They are happy with the result and decide to make it even better. They head to the Recipe Library, where they discover new baking secrets. An old scroll(6) is found, talking about a mysterious ingredient, brown sugar, which gives a unique flavor to pastries. Intrigued(7), they decide to add this ingredient to their next recipe, eager to discover its magical properties. Their adventure continues, always guided by their curiosity and passion for baking.
