📝 Quick summary of key information

Where does chocolate come from and how is it made?

Chocolate, this delight we love so much, comes from cacao beans. These little magic seeds grow inside pods, which are the fruits of cacao trees. These trees grow mostly in warm and humid places, like Africa, South America, and Asia.

To turn cocoa beans into chocolate, several steps are needed. First, the beans are fermented to develop their unique flavor. Then, they are roasted to bring out their aromas. Finally, they are ground and mixed with sugar and sometimes milk, to make the chocolate paste.

There are many types of chocolate. Dark chocolate is rich in cocoa and has a strong flavor. Milk chocolate is sweeter because it has milk added. White chocolate does not have cocoa but is made with cocoa butter and sugar, with a hint of vanilla.

Chocolate is a magical ingredient in the kitchen. It is used to make soft cakes, crunchy cookies, and melting candies. Because of its unique taste and versatility, chocolate is a must-have in many sweet recipes.

The Mysteries of Chocolate

Where does chocolate come from and how is it made ?

The Story of Chocolate

After listening to the wise advice from the Magic Oven, a magical(1) oven with shiny eyes and a warm voice like fresh bread, Leo and Lila feel ready to take on new challenges. The oven explained how heat turns dough into golden, crispy treats, and how each pastry has its own secret temperature. Today, the two friends are eager to discover a new magical ingredient: chocolate. They go to the Recipe Library, where old books and mysterious scrolls(2) await them. Leo, with his white apron stained with chocolate and his colorful chef hat, and Lila, whose brown hair is tied in a ponytail and who wears a pink apron with little cakes drawn on it, are ready to explore the secrets of chocolate.

Leo, with a curious smile, suggests:
« Let's open this book. »

Lila, curious, says:
« Look, this book seems very old. It must have chocolate recipes from centuries ago. Maybe there are hidden secrets inside! »

Leo, eyes sparkling with curiosity, whispers:
« It might be a magic book. »

Lila, with a curious smile, suggests:
« Let's look inside. »

After opening an old, dusty book, Leo and Lila discover that chocolate comes from cocoa beans. These beans grow on cocoa trees in tropical regions. They learn that the cocoa beans are first harvested, then fermented(3) to develop their flavors(4). Next, they are roasted(5) to bring out their unique tastes.

Leo, with a cheeky smile, says:
« Let's measure the ingredients. »

Lila, with a focused smile, says:
« Now that we know how chocolate is made, we need to measure the ingredients carefully. I'll start with the chocolate and the other ingredients we need for our recipes. Leo, can you help me gather everything we need? »

After carefully measuring the ingredients, it's time for Leo and Lila to go to the Ingredient Garden to find roasted cocoa beans. Along the way, they are guided by colorful butterflies to the magical plants. They learn to melt the chocolate and use it to make delicious desserts. They discover that chocolate can be used to coat cakes or to make candies. They wonder what they will create next.

The Magic of Chocolate

After picking cocoa beans, Leo and Lila go back to the Baker's Workshop. They start by roasting(6) the beans to bring out their flavors. Then, they grind them to make cocoa paste.

Leo, focused, then says:
« I am going to mix the dough with sugar and cocoa butter. »

Lila, very carefully, says:
« Now that the cocoa paste is ready, I am going to measure the extra ingredients we will add to get perfect melted chocolate. »

Leo, focused, then says:
« Now that we have mixed the dough with sugar and cocoa butter, and you have measured the extra ingredients, we heat the mixture to get perfect melted chocolate. »

Lila, with a mischievous smile, says:
« We can cover cakes or make candies. »

Once the melted chocolate is ready, the children pour it into heart-shaped molds. They patiently wait for the chocolate to cool down. Once the candies are ready, the children enjoy them with delight.

After exploring the secrets of chocolate and discovering how to coat cakes or make candies, a new adventure is offered to Leo and Lila. Accompanied by a mischievous little squirrel, they are taken to the Pastry Workshop. It is there that they learn to prepare colorful candied fruits. It is explained that candied fruits are fruits soaked(7) in sugar and water, then slowly dried to keep their flavor and texture. Finally, it is announced that new adventures await Leo and Lila in the Little Baker's Bakery.
