📝 Quick summary of key information

A sensor is a small gadget that measures things like light, temperature, or movements. It's like a little detective that watches what's happening around it.

Sensors make a treehouse smart by turning on automatic actions. For example, they can turn on a light when it's dark or send a message when someone enters the treehouse.

Sensors notice changes in the environment and send information to a computer or another device. It's like they're talking to a friend to tell them what they've seen.

Computer engineering is the science that lets us program sensors to react automatically. With it, we can program actions like adjusting the temperature to always feel just right.

The Connected Cabin

How to make a cabin smart with sensors?

The discovery of the sensors

After fixing an old robot in the Mechanic's Room, Noa and Zoé felt more confident than ever. They had learned how gears and motors help robots move. Today, they were going to the Smart Cabin, a small building where they would learn to make a cabin smart with sensors(1). Teacher Astucio welcomed them with a big smile, ready to share his knowledge about computer engineering(2) and networks(3).

Noa, curious about the possibilities, asks:
« Teacher Astucio, how do you make a cabin smart? »

Zoé, curious, asks:
« Yes, which sensors will we use? »

Teacher Astucio, with an excited smile, starts to explain: « The sensors measure light, temperature, and movements. They trigger automatic(4) actions. You will install an alarm and automatic lights. »

Not long after, Noa and Zoé started to install the sensors. They used a tablet to test their program. They had to make sure each sensor worked properly.

Noa, curious, then says:
« Zoé, the light turns on by itself! »

Zoé, with her eyes wide open, exclaims:
« Noa, look! A secret code is carved on the wall! »

When a light turns on by itself, it shows a secret code carved on the wall... what if they follow this logical trail?

The Mystery of the Secret Code

Noa and Zoé looked at the secret code. They were curious to know what it hid. They decided to decode it together. They took notes on a sheet of paper.

After squinting his eyes to see better, Noa says:
« Zoé, I think this number is a 3. »

After checking each number, Zoé says:
« Yes, you are right. The code is 3-2-1-4. »

After a few minutes of thinking, they found out that the code led to a small hidden box under a floorboard. They lifted the floorboard carefully.

Noa, his eyes sparkling with curiosity, says:
« Zoé, there is a message inside. »

Zoé, eyes sparkling, says: « Noa, the message is from Teacher Astucio. He congratulates us for our cleverness(5). »

Noa and Zoé were curious about the secret code, so they rushed to Teacher Astucio to show him their discovery. Teacher Astucio was happy to see their cleverness. He then suggested they go to the Energy Lab to learn more. Zoé was guided by Teacher Astucio to build a mini windmill, while Noa, under Teacher Astucio's supervision, connected a solar panel. They learned how wind and sun can make electricity. With their teacher's help, they explored the secrets of renewable(6) energy, guided by curiosity and cleverness. Teacher Astucio then told them their next mission: to build a monitoring(7) system for the Smart Cabin using sensors and cameras. Noa and Zoé looked at each other with excitement, ready to take on this new challenge.
