The Grand Construction Site Opening

How does a big construction site start?

The Opening of the Big Building Site

Yesterday, Léon and Lila helped Mrs. Owl fix her nest, high up in a big oak tree. They learned to use simple tools and work together. Today, they can't wait to explore a brand new world: the Builder's Village, where Mr. Poteau, a man of average height with a slim(1) figure, wearing a straw hat and a denim overalls(2), is waiting for them for a building adventure. Upon arriving, Léon and Lila are amazed by the machines and the sounds of the construction site. Mr. Poteau, the foreman, welcomes them with excitement and explains that this day is special: it's the opening(3) of the Big Construction Site.

Mr. Poteau, with a warm smile, asks:
« Hello Léon, hello Lila. Are you ready for a big adventure? »

Léon, with a big smile, shouts:
« Yes, we are ready! We want to see everything. »

Lila, curious, asks:
« We want to know how a construction site begins. »

Mr. Poteau, with a big smile, explains: « A construction site starts with a meeting. The architects(4), the foremen, the workers, and the engineers need to work together well(5). »

Mr. Poteau welcomes Léon and Lila to the Big Construction Site. He shows them the plans for the future neighborhood with houses, a school, and a road. The children receive their first hard hats. While looking at a big model, they notice a symbol shaped like a key... A first clue?

The Blueprints Cabin

Mr. Poteau explains that the key shows where the workers will dig to lay the foundations(6). Léon and Lila listen carefully. They want to understand everything. Mr. Poteau, although he knows a lot about nature, seems to have knowledge in construction as well.

Léon, curious about the color, asks:
« Why is the key blue? »

Mr. Poteau, with a smile, explains:
« The key is blue because it shows where the foundations are. Foundations are very important. They hold up the whole house. »

Lila, curious, asks:
« And the other colors? »

Mr. Poteau, with a smile, explains: « The red color shows the gas pipes(7). The green color shows the trees. Each color has a meaning. »

Léon, curious, asks:
« And the cats? Do they help too? »

Mr. Poteau, with a smile, explains:
« Oh, cats? They like to walk around the construction sites, but they don't check the plans. They don't spot the mistakes. They are there to chase mice and make the site more pleasant. Each color on the plans has a meaning, as I told you. For example, blue shows the water pipes. »

After exploring the Cabin of Plans, it is decided that Léon and Lila can discover other aspects of the construction site. Mr. Poteau, a man of average height with a slim figure, wearing a straw hat and a denim overalls, seeing their enthusiasm, offers to take them to visit the Big Construction Site. There, they will be able to see up close the plans for the future neighborhood with houses, a school, and a road. The children are thrilled at the idea of discovering the cranes, excavators, and bulldozers. They already know that their next adventure will be just as exciting and educational. As they head to the Big Construction Site, Léon and Lila wonder what other mysteries and discoveries await them. It is then that Mr. Poteau, with his sparkling eyes and warm smile, shows them the plans for the future neighborhood and hands them their first construction helmets. While observing a large model, they notice a symbol in the shape of a key... A first clue?
