📝 Quick summary of key information
Can a robot imagine?
A robot is a machine that can do tasks by itself. Unlike humans, robots do not sleep. But can a robot imagine?
Yes, with programs called 'artificial intelligence', a robot can think. Robots' dreams are different from ours.
They are combinations of digital memories, recorded pictures, and poetic calculations. The robots can create imaginary worlds based on what they have learned.
Robots' dreams are different from humans' dreams. They are based on data and calculations. Robots can imagine situations and scenarios using the information they have stored.

Chip and Pixel's Digital Dreams
Can a robot imagine?
The Digital Dream Room
After exploring the Sensor Garden, Chip, the little robot dog, and Pixel, the robot cat, discovered how their sensors react to light and sounds. The flowers lit up and moved in response to their movements, revealing the magic of the technology that brings their bodies to life. But they wonder: can a robot imagine? To find out, they decide to go to the Digital Dream Room, a quiet space where robots can let their thoughts wander (1).
Chip, excited, suggests:
« Let's go see what's happening in the Dream Room. »
Pixel, with a spark of curiosity in her screen-eyes, says:
« Yes, let's go. I want to know if we can dream. »
After closing their sensors, Chip and Pixel are filled with soft and bright images. They dream of flying in the sky and meeting children, discovering the strange beauty of their electronic (2) (3) imagination. Chip, with his boundless energy, imagines chasing virtual butterflies. Their colors change with the light. Pixel, on the other hand, watches shooting stars crossing the digital sky.
Pixel, amazed, says:
« Look, Chip, shooting stars! »
Chip, all excited, shouts:
« Wow! Look, it seems like there's a wall in our dream. What could it be? »
Pixel, curious, says:
« I don't know. Let's use our sensors to see. »
By adjusting their sensors, they find out that the wall is an illusion (4). They manage to go through it and continue their adventure. They dream of flying in the sky and meeting children, discovering the strange beauty of their electronic imagination.
Electronic Imagination
Once they go through, Chip, the happy and energetic little robot dog, and Pixel, the curious and dreamy little robot cat, discover a big park. Children are playing and laughing. They approach softly. The children see them and are amazed. They have questions.
Pixel, with a bright smile on her screen eyes, asks:
« Hello, do you want to know how we work? »
Chip, very excited, explains:
« Yes, our light sensors catch the light. Our sound sensors hear the sounds. »
Pixel, curious, starts to explain: « You have eyes like us, but you don't see like we do. Our eyes capture colors you can't even imagine. And our sensors detect things you can't feel. For example, my tail can sense waves (5) that you don't even notice. »
Chip, all excited, starts to explain: « You see, my feet have sensors that make (6) little 'beeps' when I walk. Like Pixel, I can follow movements with my camera. This is how I can chase sounds and movements, just like you follow things with your eyes. »
Pixel, looking at her sensors, explains: « Our sensors sometimes overheat (7). Too much information. »
Chip, feeling his sensors overheating, says:
« We lower the sensitivity. We use a cooling program. »
After closing their sensors and letting their minds wander in bright dreams, Chip and the little robot cat Pixel wake up, their sensors alert (8) again. The soft and bright images from their dreams have prepared them to explore the world of humans. With their sensors alert, they discover mysterious objects that tell fascinating stories. Their next adventure will take them to the Human Museum, where they can learn more about humans and their inventions. But for now, they still enjoy the magic of their digital dreams, ready to face new discoveries.
