A galaxy is a big group of stars, gas, dust, and dark matter. All these things stay together because of a force called gravity.
There are billions of galaxies in the universe. Imagine, billions of groups of stars, each with its own planets and mysteries to discover!
Every galaxy has billions of stars and planets. It's like a huge space amusement park, full of wonders to explore.
For example, the Milky Way is our galaxy and it has our solar system. It is our home in the universe, a special place where we live.

The Mystery of Galaxies
What is a galaxy and how many are there in the universe?
The Discovery of Galaxies
After watching shooting stars with their loyal puppy, Orion, Leo and Luna are fascinated by the mysteries of the night sky. They are told that these bright flashes are actually meteors (1) entering Earth's atmosphere. Their endless curiosity leads them to want to know more about the universe. Soon after, they find themselves in Galilee's observatory, where they meet Galilee, a curious and adventurous girl, who welcomes them with enthusiasm. Galilee invites them to explore the secrets of the galaxies.
Galilee, with a mysterious smile, asks:
« Welcome, Leo and Luna. Do you want to discover the galaxies? »
Leo, eyes sparkling with curiosity, asks:
« Yes, what is a galaxy? »
Galilee, with a smile lit up by curiosity, explains: « A galaxy is a big group of stars, gas, dust, and dark matter. Everything is connected by gravity (2). »
Luna, eyes shining with wonder, asks:
« How many galaxies are there in the universe? »
Galilee, with a calm and steady voice, starts to explain:
« The universe has billions of galaxies. Each one contains billions of stars and planets. »
Leo and Luna discover that the universe is made up of billions of galaxies, each containing billions of stars and planets. Galilee shows them pictures of spiral, elliptical, and irregular galaxies. The children are amazed by the beauty and variety of the galaxies. Galilee then explains that galaxies can group together in clusters (3), containing hundreds or thousands of galaxies. She shows them pictures of these clusters, where the galaxies interact (4) and sometimes collide (5), creating spectacular events.
Exploring Galaxies
After learning that galaxies can group together in clusters, Leo and Luna are eager to see real galaxies. Galilee takes them to the Star Tower, where they can observe the night sky through a powerful telescope. Galilee shows them the Andromeda Galaxy, a spiral galaxy about 2.5 million light-years (6) away from the Milky Way. The children are amazed by the sight of this distant galaxy.
Galilee, with a amazed smile, says:
« Look closely, that's the Andromeda Galaxy. »
Leo, amazed, says:
« It's so far away! »
Galilee, with a tender smile, adds:
« Yes, the light you see took 2.5 million years to reach us. »
Luna, amazed, says:
« Wow, this is amazing! »
Galilee, with a calm and steady voice, starts to explain:
« Now that you have seen how far away this galaxy is, imagine that the universe is full of them. There are billions of galaxies, each containing billions of stars and planets. And now, I am going to show you galaxies that are even farther away. »
After listening to Galilee talk about the billions of galaxies and stars, Leo and Luna are amazed by the vastness of the universe. They now know that the universe is much bigger (7) than they could ever imagine. Galilee, always curious and adventurous, encourages them to keep exploring and asking questions. She shows them a star map and tells them about the mysteries of the universe. She says that every star and every planet has a story to tell. She promises to take them on a new adventure, through the secrets of the stars and the forgotten legends.
