📝 Quick summary of key information
Why is Mars red and full of mountains?
Mars is red because of the iron dust that covers its surface. Iron rusts when it is exposed to air, which gives it that reddish color. It's like Mars is wearing a red jacket every day!
Mars is full of mountains because its surface was shaped by volcanoes and meteorite impacts. For example, Olympus Mons is the biggest volcano in the solar system. It is so big that it could cover an entire region on Earth!
The mountains on Mars help scientists understand the planet's history. They show how Mars has changed over time, like giant history books!
Mountains can change the weather and rocks on Mars. They can make winds and dust storms, making exploring even more exciting!

Mars the Red and the Secret Canyons
Why is Mars red and full of mountains?
Landing on Mars
After listening to Mars the Red's stories of ancient mountains and storms, Piko and Luma, two little asteroids (1), are ready to discover the mysteries of the red planet (2). Their journey begins with a trip through space, where they see sparkling stars and faraway planets. They know that Mars, with its majestic mountains and deep canyons, is waiting for them with fascinating stories. Mars, a brave (3) and curious (4) planet, is eager to share its adventures with them. Piko, with his endless curiosity, and Luma, with her kindness and mischief, are ready to explore every corner of the red planet.
Not long after leaving Earth, Piko and Luma see a brave and curious planet. Mars the Red, with its reddish surface, welcomes them warmly. Luma looks at the red color of Mars' surface. Piko asks why Mars is so red.
Piko, curious, asks:
« Why is Mars the Red red? »
Luma, curious, thinks out loud:
« That's right, it's a really special color. It seems like Mars the Red has lots of secrets to tell us. Maybe it's because of the red dust that covers the whole planet. But I'm sure there's a fascinating story behind all of this. »
Mars the Red explains that iron dust, rich in iron oxide, gives his surface this reddish color. Luma, amazed, shines a soft blue light on the majestic mountains and deep canyons. Mars the Red tells them that these mountains and canyons are the remains of intense volcanic (5) activity millions of years ago.
While exploring a canyon, Mars the Red gives them a small, shiny red rock. Piko and Luma are fascinated by the rock and wonder what it hides.
The mystery of the red pebble
Once Piko got the red rock, he decided to look at it more closely. The rock, glowing and shiny, seems to have a story to tell.
Piko, with wide eyes, says:
« Look, Luma, this rock is shining. »
Luma, amazed, says:
« Yes, it is wonderful. What could it hide? »
Piko, curious about the pebble, suggests:
« Let's ask Mars the Red. »
Mars the Red tells them that this little rock is a piece of Martian stone, rich in minerals and iron. It is unique and has a mysterious symbol that, according to Mars the Red, points to the next planet to visit: Jupiter.
Piko, curious, asks:
« Jupiter? Where is it? »
Luma, curious, asks:
« What does this symbol mean? »
Mars the Red tells them that this symbol is an old code used by alien (6) explorers to mark paths to other planets. They then understand that this little rock is a precious guide for their journey.
After thanking Mars the Red for the mysterious rock, Piko and Luma zoom towards Jupiter, the giant of the solar system. They can't wait to meet this gas planet (7) and discover the secrets of its swirling red spot. On their spaceship, they get ready for a new adventure, eager to learn why Jupiter is so big and how its never-ending storm fascinates astronomers. Their journey continues, full of discoveries and wonders, as they leave Mars the Red, the red planet, behind and head towards the vastness of space, ready to explore new horizons.
