📝 Quick summary of key information

How did Leonardo da Vinci protect his inventions and ideas?

Leonardo da Vinci was a great inventor and artist from the Renaissance. He made amazing machines and drew plans for futuristic inventions. He wanted to protect his ideas to keep others from stealing them.

To keep his inventions secret, Leonardo used codes and backwards writing. He wrote his notes backwards, from right to left, or even in a mirror. This made his writings hard to read for those who didn't know his methods.

Secret codes worked like puzzles. Only those who knew the rules could solve them. Leonard also liked to draw symbols and mysterious shapes to add an extra layer of protection to his ideas.

It was important for Leonard to keep his inventions secret for several reasons. First, he wanted to be the first to show them to the world. Next, he was afraid that others might take his ideas and use them badly.

The Secret Code of Leonard

How did Leonard da Vinci protect his inventions and ideas?

The Mysterious Notebook

After testing their creations in the Invention Garden, Lea and Max saw how their inventions(1) could come to life. A little wise and curious owl guided them through the plants and mechanisms, showing them the importance of experimenting(2). They learned that every try, even the smallest ones, brought a new lesson. Soon after, while exploring the Magic Workshop, Lea and Max discovered an old, dusty notebook hidden behind a pile of drawings. Intrigued(3), they decided to open it and found pages filled with mysterious symbols and upside-down writing. Their curiosity sparked, they realized they had found a hidden treasure of Leonardo da Vinci.

Lea, eyes wide open, exclaims:
« Look, Max, symbols everywhere! »

Max, curious, whispers:
« This is strange. Leonard hid his ideas. »

Lea, her eyes sparkling with excitement, says: « Yes, he used codes. Let's decode(4) them together. »

Max, after looking at the pages, says:
« Okay, let's start with the drawings. »

Max took out his sketchbook. He started to draw the symbols. Lea put on her artist's smock. She wrote down the matches between the symbols and the letters. Together, they realized that each symbol stood for a letter or a number. After a few tries, they managed to decipher the first sentences. They found out that Leonard used these codes to protect his inventions from prying eyes.

They found a mysterious page. The symbols seemed more complex. They decided to go to the Flying Machines Lab to look for clues.

The Code Cracking

Lea and Max arrived in the Flying Machines Lab. They looked at Leonard's flying machines. They searched for clues to decode the mysterious symbols. The children focused on every detail.

Lea, curious, points her finger:
« Max, look at this machine. It has symbols. »

Max, after looking carefully at the symbols, says:
« Yes, I see. Maybe these symbols match the codes. »

After looking at the symbols, Lea says:
« Let's try to compare them with the ones in the notebook. »

Lea and Max compared the symbols of the machines with those in the notebook. They found matches. They wrote down the letters and numbers. They started to decode Leonardo's secret codes. They found amazing plans.

Max, with his eyes wide open, says:
« Lea, these plans show war machines. »

Lea, after looking at the plans, says: « Yes, Leonardo imagined defense devices(5). »

After decoding the last code in the notebook, Lea and Max found plans for amazing machines. Among them, a war machine caught their attention. But as they looked at it, they asked themselves an important question: how could they use this invention to promote peace instead of war? They decided to think of ways to turn this machine into a tool for building and protection. Along the way, they talked about Leonard's inventions, wondering how he could have imagined such incredible machines. They understood that Leonard had used his inventions to improve people's lives and protect his country. Inspired(6) by this discovery, Lea and Max decided to create their own inventions to promote peace and cooperation. They returned to the Invention Garden, ready to experiment and discover new ideas. But as they started to work, they heard a strange noise coming from the Magic Workshop. Curious, they decided to go and see. On their way, they laughed about their first attempts at decoding, remembering the funny mistakes they had made. Once inside the Magic Workshop, they discovered a new invention by Leonard, hidden behind a pile of drawings. Their curiosity piqued, they realized they had just found a new hidden treasure from Leonard da Vinci. But that, is another story...
